weaving lore and tradition into imaginary worlds
Hien Fox is a fledgling speculative fiction writer, cat lady, and hot pot enthusiast based on the east coast of the US. She aims to explore Vietnamese folklore, mythology, and magic in her work.
I am currently drafting a new fantasy project- a retelling of Rapunzel and the Viet folktale, "The Boatman's Flute".
Fudoki Magazine posted my flash-fiction piece, "The Nineteenth Smile". It features the twelve bà mụ, or 'Twelve Midwives' from Vietnamese folklore.
Insignia Stories' Mythical Creatures of Asia (Insignia Drabbles Vol.3) anthology is published, featuring three of my drabbles on Vietnamese creatures.
One of these drabbles, "A Sailor's Fear", is featured as part of Insignia Stories' Women in Horror Month.
